Caritas Team En Route to Turkey Earthquake Site

An emergency response team from Caritas Turkey is on its way to the site of Sunday’s earthquake that at last count has killed more than 200 and injured hundreds more. According to Caritas Internationalis:

A Caritas Turkey team is en route to a region that was hit by a powerful earthquake on Sunday. The quake, which occurred in an eastern province of Turkey, killed over 200 people in cities there and brought down dozens of buildings.

Caritas will assess the needs of people whose homes or livelihoods have been impacted by the quake. Access to the area’s villages, where many mud-brick homes have collapsed, may be difficult.

Caritas Europa is in contact with the Caritas team in Turkey and will receive updates as the assessment progresses.

The prayers of Catholic Relief Services are with those who have been killed and injured, and with their families. CRS will support the response of our partners in Turkey, including Caritas.

The CRS Newswire will continue to provide updates as information is available.
