Message of Peace for Egypt

August 19, 2013 by

CRS remains committed to assisting the poorest and most vulnerable people in Egypt during this current crisis and in the long-term. All CRS staff members are safe. Egypt’s Coptic Catholic Patriarch offered the following message for people of all faiths.

His Beatitude Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac, Patriarch of the Coptic Catholics and President of the Catholic Conference of Egypt, sends the following message of condolences to the People of Egypt, of all faiths and beliefs:

“The circumstances through which the country lives these days are truly saddening and heartbreaking to all those who love Egypt. We however trust in the omnipotence of God’s love: may He cast peace over our beloved Egypt and bring back a spirit of reconciliation and peace among the children of the nation. We trust the faithful children of Egypt to be  able to overcome this difficult stage. I send my deepest condolences to the parents and relatives of the victims of the recent painful incidents. We ask the Lord for the recovery of all those injured. May God protect Egypt from all evil and preserve it from all harm.”

The sufferings of our brothers and sisters in Christ in Egypt are truly heartbreaking. My in-laws survived Kristallnacht in Germany and the Holocaust and the parallels to what the Copts are enduring are all-too-evident. I don’t understand why the Western world has abandoned the Copts to the Islamists, it is just like the plight of the Jews in the 1940’s.
