Pope Francis to Help Launch a Global Wave of Prayer to End World Hunger

December 4, 2013 by

WHAT:
Pope Francis will help launch a global wave of prayer to end  world hunger, which affects 842 million people. At noon local time, a global wave of prayer will begin on the Pacific island of Samoa, cascading around the world through each time zone. The prayer will continue until it reaches the island again, roughly 24 hours later. The wave of prayer is the first step in a longer campaign sponsored by Caritas Internationalis, and supported by Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities USA in the United States, to end the scandal of world hunger.

WHEN:
Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013
Noon, local time

WHERE:
Worldwide, beginning on the island of Samoa at noon

BACKGROUND:
Pope Francis, Catholics around the world and members of other faiths will use the power of prayer to raise awareness that hunger is unacceptable and can be defeated. For 70 years, Catholic Relief Services has been answering the call to combat hunger globally. Its efforts have helped 26 million people worldwide feed themselves.
