The Church Responds to Hurricanes in Mexico

September 23, 2013 by

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by Hurricanes Ingrid and Manuel in México. Twenty nine of the country’s 31 states have been affected by the back-to-back storms that hit both the Gulf and the Pacific coasts. More than 110 people have died and more than 200,000 have been directly impacted by heavy rains and landslides.

Catholic Relief Services has only a limited presence in Mexico and works closely with our church partner Cáritas Mexicana. The Church in México is supporting response efforts at parish, diocesan and national levels. It includes: running collection centers and distributing food, medicine and clothing; facilitating communications with the affected local population; offering general assistance and transport to remove stranded people in still-flooded neighborhoods.
